The Difference Between EDGE, GPRS, HSPA, HSDPA, HSUPA, UMTS & WCDMA

Global System for Mobile Communication GSM is an abbreviated mobile communications technology that is digital. GSM technologies are widely applied in mobile communications, especially mobile phones. This technology utilizes the microwave and signal transmission is divided by time, so that the signal information sent will arrive at the destination. GSM global standard used for mobile communications as well as mobile technology most widely used of people around the world. GSM capable of delivering voice and low speed data (9.6 to 14.4 kbps) and then evolved into GPRS. General Packet Radio Service or GPRS is the abbreviated development of GSM technology to speed data communications up to 115kbps for GPRS system can be used to transfer data (in the form of data packets) that are associated with e-mail, image data (MMS), Wireless Application Protocol (WAP ), and the World Wide Web (WWW).

Next is the Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution, or EDGE abbreviated. Earlier in the GPRS offers data speeds of 115 kbps, and in theory can reach 160 kbps. While at EDGE data speeds sbesar 384 kbps, and in theory could reach 473.6 kbps. In general, the speed of EDGE is three times greater than GPRS. Universal Mobile Telecommunication System or UMTS, and commonly referred to as Wideband Code-Division Multiple Access or WCDMA is a third generation technology (3G) to GSM. The technology is not compatible with CDMA2000 or often referred to as CDMA only. WCDMA can reach speeds of 384 kbps and the days to come will probably increase to around 10Mbps. This technology uses-Wideband AMR (Adaptive Multi-rate) for the codification of sound (voice codec), so the sound quality is obtained to be better than the previous generation.

High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) or High Speed Upload Packet Access (HSUPA), is actually two technologies are different but the technology is always a package deal, which means there is no HSDPA HSUPA. HSDPA is a standard HSPA with the ability of its transfer speed downlink (from network to the handset), which can reach speeds of HSDPA 7.2 Mbps downlink and in theory can ditinggkatkan up to 14.4 Mbps with a maximum speed of 384 kbps uplink. HSDPA in addition can be used by mobile phones but can also be used by the notebook to access the data at high speed. While a standard HSPA HSUPA capabilities of the uplinknya transfer speed (from the handset to the network), which can reach speeds of HSUPA uplink speeds theoretically up to 5.76 Mbps, but this is not implentasikan HSUPA (commercial) and the handset is not made. And the last is the High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) is the union of the HSDPA and HSUPA.
